Weekly Announcements

Cross Country Newsletter (9-05-2011)

The Cross Country athletes enjoyed another special week of training and competing.  While the majority of the athletes continued with their daily workouts at WHS, a select group traveled to Oahu, Hawaii to compete in the Pearl City Invitational.   The group enjoyed the many special sites of Hawaii as they trained hard in preparing for the meet.

Both  varsity teams won the 11-meet invitational in dominating fashion.  The girls finished 1,2,3,4,5,7 & 8.  Molly Babock, Coco Evans, Madeline Bradford, Alexis Abad  and Alyssa Gutcher were the top 5 finishers.  Dragan Simic, & Brandon Ferguson finsihed 1 & 2 while Jackson Marshall, Daniel Toberty and Jake Suiste finished in the top 8 of the race to round off the scoring for the Warriors.

Even though the results were impressive, we still have a lot of work still ahead of us if we are to reach our goals of  CIF/State participants.  Our gaps improved from the time trials but still need to be narrowed.  And since both squads fated during the second half of the race, we will need to focus in the workouts to improve in this area.  The best way is to remember our plan to always finish the last mile or two at race pace during practice..

ATHLETES OF THE MEET:  Justin Park (earned a spot on the varsity team) and Madeline Bradford (improved her time from the time trials even though it was a hilly course)
